Teale and Anderson to Plymouth

February 20th, 2008 | By: Ian Rose | No Comments »

Plymouth Argyle has signed on loan two Scottish internationals in one day, adding themselves to the now-healthy list of clubs I need to keep an eye on this season. Winger Gary Teale and defender Russell Anderson both signed to Plymouth for the rest of the season, each leaving Premier League sides where they have fallen somewhat out of favor. Teale has only started one Premier League match in 2008, which would be less depressing if his team wasn’t Derby County. Anderson came through some early injury woes to find himself benched at Sunderland, a far cry from his previous position as beloved Aberdeen captain. The two join a roster that already has a bit of a Northern accent, with Scots Jim Paterson, Chris Clark (also a former Don) and Steve MacLean already there.

Let’s hope Teale and Anderson get some playing time, and with Plymouth just two points from the promotion playoff spots, they may even get a chance to play their way back into the Prem. Still, you can’t blame George Burley for looking elsewhere for a winger when Teale can’t get a start at Derby, one of the worst sides in the history of the Premiership. As for me, I think we have quite enough players in the Championship, and I’d like to see a few more Scots proving themselves at the highest levels, even if it’s in another league system.
