FA hypocrisy watch: Cashley v. Hutton

March 19th, 2008 | By: Ian Rose | No Comments »

Just a short note today, and one only tangentially related to the Scotland NT. One week from the Croatian Invasion, Scotland starting right back Alan Hutton was getting a run out with Spurs against Chelsea today … still is, actually. Anyway, on the very week that Martin Taylor returns from his three-game ban for the terrible tackle on Eduardo, Ashley Cole just made a very similar tackle on Hutton, catching him halfway up his shin. Result? Yellow card for Cashley. I guess you literally have to break someone’s leg in that league to get a red card these days. Luckily, Alan Hutton is fine, or else this would be less of a rant and more of an insanely furious tirade. Something needs to give in England, because as it stands, I would much rather have our internationals playing in slightly less prestigious leagues with something resembling a sensible disciplinary system. England’s system is a joke, albeit a very unfunny one that leaves people shaking their heads and frowning rather than having a laugh.
