Hutton’s first match against McLeish

March 1st, 2008 | By: Ian Rose | No Comments »

Scotland and Spurs right back Alan Hutton faced his old international boss today for the first time, as Spurs went to Birmingham to face Alex McLeish’s City. Fresh from the 2-2 draw with Arsenal last weekend that will always be best remembered for the Eduardo break, McLeish managed another fine result today, trouncing Spurs 4-1. Hutton was fairly quiet most of the match, while his Scotland teammate on the other side of the ball, Birmingham striker James McFadden, was active and troubled the Spurs defense, but failed to score for himself. Mikael Forssell was on fire, netting a hat trick for the Blues and securing three vital points in the race for Premier League survival.

The match was strange for Hutton not only in facing his old manager. Three years ago, he suffered a similar break to Eduardo’s, and watching last week’s match brought it all back. Regardless of what the latest Arsenal press release says, it is Hutton’s informed opinion that Eduardo is looking at a two-year process of returning to his best football.
