Scotland 3 Faroe Islands 0 – A Good Training Exercise
Craig Levein gave 7 players their Scotland debut in a friendly match against the Faroes at Pittodrie in what was a great chance for Craig Levein to figure out who can be called upon when selecting his future squads.
Scotland were 3-0 up and cruising at half time. 18 year old defender Danny Wilson and 20 year old midfielder Barry Bannan caught the eye as players not for the future but for now.
The first goal was scored by Danny Wilson after 23 minutes. Adam swung a cross in and Wilson volleyed home impressively from 8 yards, his first international goal. The second again came from an Adam cross with Commons flicking the ball into the back of the net for his first international goal. Just about 2 minutes before half time Jamie Mackie, the QPR striker, netted his first goal for his adopted country, Bannan crossing for Wilson to head on.
After half time subs were made and while Maloney had a couple of easy chances he failed to put in the goal the game was like a testimonial, the abject Faroes team had given up.
Craig Levein should be pleased overall. We won, avoiding humiliation, and he discovered that he had a big pool of players he can rely on.
