Another bloody squad post: Holland

March 21st, 2009 | By: Ian Rose | 8 Comments »

Here’s the list of Dutchmen that we’ll be facing a week from today. As always with Holland, the strikers are frightening, the midfield intimidating … the rest? Without the known quantity of Edwin van der Sar between the sticks, it’s hard to say.

Mon the Scots. Oh, and I’m no Dutch-hater, but if I didn’t include at least one toit-like-a-toiger reference, I just wouldn’t respect myself.

Keepers: Henk Timmer (Feyenoord), Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax), Michel Vorm (FC Utrecht);

Defenders: Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Feyenoord), Andre Ooijer (Blackburn), John Heitinga (Atletico Madrid), Khalid Boulahrouz (Stuttgart), Edson Braafheid (FC Twente), Dirk Marcellis (PSV Eindhoven), Joris Mathijsen (Hamburg), Gregory van der Wiel (Ajax);

Midfielders: Mark van Bommel (Bayern Munich), Wesley Sneijder (Real Madrid), Ibrahim Afellay (PSV Eindhoven), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City), Demy de Zeeuw (AZ Alkmaar), Arjen Robben (Real Madrid), Rafael van der Vaart (Real Madrid), Stijn Schaars (AZ Alkmaar);

Forwards: Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Real Madrid), Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel (both Liverpool), Robin van Persie (Arsenal).

Thanks for that line-up. I’ve been looking for that. Is that an official one?

Holland definitely has a keeper problem right now, but you Scots better keep an eye on the Hunter, he’s on a roll right now and the most dangerous man in that entire line-up.

That was handed to me by a third party, so I’m not entirely sure its official, but its the best I have. My guess would be its within one player of being official, but unless I hear it from the coach’s mouth, there’s only so far you can trust the internet.

I don’t think Holland has a keeper problem now. Maybe in some months, when Stekelenburg gets rusty due to benchwarming. The man will be totally 100% motivated now.

But if Stekel gets rusty, there’s a good chance his replacement Vermeer at Ajax will be the bees knees…

I wonder how many Dutchies are reading the Scottish blog – Sadly not too many Scotsmen (or women) commenting here :( . Would be good banter. Scotland are my second team after Holland. Whereas I do believe they will lose. I hope they still make second spot and hopefully Holland has already qualified when they meet in Glasgow. So then I hope Scotland will at least get a point, maybe even a win to qualify !! Best of luck Bravehearts !

“Another Bloody Squad Post”…Maybe a better title should be “Another Blood Loss Post”! Don’t take it personally if you lose, but it will the end of the universe if the Oranje were to lose to the Scots.
Go Huntelaaaaaaaaar!!!

On the goal the Scots scored – It was perfectly legit ! I dont know one Dutch Newspaper nor objective Dutch fan who would disagree. Even the Dutch commentators and players were puzzled by the decision.
Keep going Bravehearts ! – At least come in second !

Carlos: Maybe there was something the cameras couldn’t see this time and the ref could (the other way around then what we’re used to), but you’re right, I couldn’t see anything wrong with it either.

It would be nice indeed to see some more Scots around here, one of the reasons I started commenting was also because I saw Ian’s effort with posting all the nice articles but just little commenting. Just wanted to let him now that his articles are being read and appreciated. The same counts for all the other blogs in here that aren’t as active as the Dutch, Italian or French blogs for example but where someone is still nice enough to post all these interesting articles about their teams. This is all voluntary isn’t it?
